Business Plan 2.0

We had assembled a traditional business plan but we felt it did not do justice to our coworking vision. Because coworking is all about image, experience and atmosphere, we realized that describing it just with words would not be good enough. We decided to take a different approach and write a different kind of business plan.

Vadym and I have a common and mutual understanding of what we envision as being our ideal coworking space. But it’s not always easy to clearly communicate that between us or with others. To remedy this, we began to look at books, magazines and catalogs. For a long time now we have been using visual aids such as this great book about lofts design and an interior design magazine. These turned out to be really successful and we soon started to talk about creating a “portfolio” to convey our ideas.

In fact, the portfolio is going to be part of our new business plan. We are working on it right now, collecting pictures, articles, and so on. But basically we want to tell the story of our coworking concept with visual metaphors. It’s comparable to the storyboards that you find in the film or the advertising industries. We will of course have sections dedicated to strategic information such as industry, customer and competition analysis or financial plan. But to one extent, we are going to create our own right-brain business plan as described in this inspiring blog.

We will let you know how this turns out. Until then, cheers!

I have just started my business plan for a coworking space in Des Moines. I also have felt the frustration you have delt with. The biggest problem I face is lack of history, statistics, design, etc.

If you are willing to share any info I would appreciate it.

    Good Luck

    Hey Emilie.

Great concept with the Business Plan 2.0… I am considering trying to get financing for a coworking space in New Jersey. Would you be willing to share your business plans? I just have no idea where to start

I too am just starting the BP for a coworking effort in Tracy, CA. Originally started as a typical old fashined telework center almost a year ago, I feel more comfortable with coworking…and have gotten a renewed energy.

Too bad a business plan can’t be written a a blog (or vlog) so the creative aspects can be shown via video, audio and links (along with the words, diagrams and numbers).

And another… My husband and I are considering opening a co-working space in suburban Maryland. If you are willing, I’d love to see your business plan too.
